casa vasari ad arezzo

Vasari's House.

Arezzo’s celebrated architect, artist and man of letters, Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), bought this house in 1540 while it was still under construction. He commented that the house was “situated in the best part of the city, in the village of San Vitale, where the loveliest of kitchen gardens could be laid out”. Vasari himself designed the building, followed its construction closely and decorated it beautifully. The Sala del Camino, or chimney, is the most spacious and interesting of the rooms in this luxurious residence and it vividly displays Vasari’s creative genius. Today the building houses the Museum of Vasari’s Archives.
